Cheetah Tracking

Track rewilded cheetahs on foot and watch these remarkable animals in their natural habitat.

One of the many remarkable experiences that guests can look forward to at Buffalo Kloof is our cheetah viewing experience. We proudly host a group of rewilded cheetahs, part of our dedicated cheetah conservation efforts to combat the decline in their population by diversifying the gene pool. With cheetah populations facing significant threats such as habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and genetic bottlenecks, our conservation initiatives are crucial for the survival of these magnificent creatures.

Getting up close with our cheetahs offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with nature in a whole new way. Joined with your guide, this experience is led by our expert cheetah management and research head, Jess Shuttleworth, whose extensive experience and deep understanding of cheetah behaviour ensures an enriching and educational adventure.  Utilising advanced telemetry techniques, Jess skilfully locates the cheetahs and assesses the safety of allowing guests to walk in their vicinity.

The experience not only provides a thrilling encounter with these fast and graceful animals but also highlights the importance of conservation efforts and the role Buffalo Kloof plays in preserving biodiversity. Our cheetah viewing experience is more than just an opportunity to see these animals up close; it is a chance to learn about their challenges, understand the intricacies of their behaviour, and appreciate the efforts required to ensure their survival.
