2024, A Year of Growth and Gratitude
Celebrating milestones, connections, and the journey ahead.
Where to begin? This year has been one of our busiest yet, and we’re overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who has walked through the doors of Buffalo Kloof. From dedicated hunters to eco-tourists eager to immerse themselves in our mission, 2024 has been a year filled with growth, successes, and meaningful connections.
A Year of Impact
This year brought us many incredible milestones.
1.
Welcoming New Wildlife:
Our wildlife population continues to grow, with the birth of several rhino calves—a testament to the success of our conservation efforts. We also welcomed a new litter of four cheetah cubs, though nature’s challenges meant only two survived. These two cubs remain strong, embodying the resilience of the species we work tirelessly to protect.

Expansion:
We’re proud to share that we dropped fences this year, adding another 3,500 hectares of pristine thicket to the conservancy. This expansion creates critical space for black rhinos to roam freely and thrive, reinforcing Buffalo Kloof as an incredible place for this endangered species.

Removing of Powerlines:
Additionally, our commitment to sustainable conservation continues with the removal of powerlines across the property. This year, we made significant strides toward our vision of becoming a powerline-free conservancy within the next five years.

Solar Lodges:
Alongside this, we’re proud to say that all our lodges are now powered entirely by solar energy, ensuring a low environmental footprint while providing a comfortable, eco-conscious experience for our guests.

AI Rhino Collars:
One of our most significant projects was the mass collaring of black and white rhinos with advanced AI-enabled tracking collars. These collars provide real-time data, aiding in the protection and management of these endangered animals. This cutting-edge technology strengthens our ability to monitor movements, deter poaching, and better understand the habits of these majestic creatures, bringing us closer to securing their future.
Celebrating Our Hunters
To the hunters who have ventured into the Eastern Cape thicket: thank you! Whether you came with large family groups or individually sought to test your limits, your contribution to conservation has been invaluable.
Every hunt supports critical efforts, from habitat management to anti-poaching initiatives. And in the process, you’ve taken home not just trophies, but unforgettable memories forged in one of Africa’s most unique landscapes.
Welcoming Eco-Tourists
This year also saw an influx of eco-tourists, many of whom embraced the chance to participate in hands-on conservation efforts. From soaking in the beauty of Buffalo Kloof through game drives, birdwatching, and immersive safaris, it’s been heartwarming to see families connecting deeply with our mission.
We’re especially grateful to those who embraced our model of conservation through sustainable utilisation—even though they weren’t hunting. Your curiosity, passion, and contributions play an essential role in keeping the wheels turning and ensuring that Buffalo Kloof remains a place where conservation thrives.
Conservation: No Finish Line
Conservation is a journey without an end—a road marked by challenges and breakthroughs. At Buffalo Kloof, we’ve met every hurdle with determination, and as a relatively new destination, we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved since Spekboom Camp officially opened in 2019. From expanding habitats to enhancing security efforts for endangered species, every step has brought us closer to our vision of a thriving, sustainable future.
Yet, we know the work is far from over. Conservation comes with constant challenges, but it’s a responsibility we embrace wholeheartedly. As we look ahead to 2025, we’re excited to share that there are many incredible projects and initiatives in the pipeline.
From further habitat restoration to new opportunities for guests to connect with our mission, the next chapter at Buffalo Kloof promises to be one of growth, innovation, and meaningful impact.

Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited to kick off the year with our annual U.S. marketing trip in January, where we’ll reconnect with long-time partners and forge new relationships.
